Exploring the Hospitable Sea

Proceedings of the International Workshop on the Black Sea in Antiquity held in Thessaloniki, 21-23 September 2012

Manolis Manoledakis

This volume presents the proceedings of an international workshop hosted by the School of Humanities of the International Hellenic University, Thessaloniki (September 2012) on the theme of ‘The Black Sea in Antiquity’, aiming at bringing together young scholars from all over the world who specialize in research in this field. The contributions cover the whole Black Sea region and provide insights into several aspects of its historical periods (Antiquity, Late Antiquity, Byzantine): colonisation, religion, local tribes and their relations with the Greeks, geography, written sources, inscrAtions, and archaeological research generally.

‘A great merit of the book is that it publishes the discussions that followed the presentation of each paper.’
