The Protoclassic in the Maya Lowlands
Written by Duncan Pring
$51.80 – $64.80
Description
The Protoclassic has been the subject of much debate amongst Mayanists, much of it fuelled by lack of definition and understanding. This work seeks to provide such definitions and to pull together in a single volume much of the material relevant to this complex subject. A major part of the monograph consists of line illustrations and modern descriptions of the whole vessels uncovered at Holmul, Mountain Cow and Nolunul. The study also provides a brief analysis of some of the sites whose ceramics have been used in discussion of the Protoclassic by various individuals. It will provide the student of the subject with a useful list representing some of the more important developments. In the opening section, the author documents the history of the problem, to provide some definitions and to reach some conclusions regarding its nature and the part that it played in the development of Maya civilization.
