Description

This book offers a catalogue and analysis of the ceramics excavated at the site of Troy by Heinrich Schliemann, with a focus on the pieces held in collections in Munich and Poznan. Based on the author’s own first-hand examination of the objects, it places the ceramics in their archaeological context within the stratigraphy and chronology of Troy, from its Bronze Age phases to the Roman period, as well as situating them in their broader Anatolian and Aegean cultural context. It also offers an overview of earlier studies on Trojan Bronze Age pottery, whorls, loom weights and pierced pottery discs, with a focus on those related to the items under study, as well as notes on the history of the collections. The extensive catalogue section includes a description of the artefacts and lists of published reference materials.
