En esta obra, se combinan en el tiempo y en el espacio estudios de la cultura maya de las Tierras Bajas del Norte, desde la época prehispánica, hasta la actualidad. Contiene estudios de arqueología, antropología social, etnohistoria, calendarios, astronomía, pintura mural y códices prehispánicos.

Se abordan investigaciones relativas a las interrelaciones entre el área maya y Teotihuacán, estudios arqueológicos realizados en el Noroeste de Yucatán, de arquitectura, patrón de asentamiento, artefactos y pintura mural, en T´hó (Mérida), Dzibilchaltún, Chunchucmil, Sihó y Mayapán. En la región del Puuc, destaca la búsqueda del origen y antigüedad de la civilización maya y los estudios realizados en Yaxuná, Chichén Itzá, Kulubá, Xuenkal y Ekbalam. Contiene ensayos de los sistemas calendáricos, códices, herbolaria y territorialidad simbólica. Sin duda es esta una contribución importante a los estudios mayas.

In this work, studies of the Maya culture of the Northern Lowlands are combined across time and space, from the pre-Hispanic era to the present. It contains studies of archaeology, social anthropology, ethnohistory, calendars, astronomy, mural painting, and pre-Hispanic codices.

Research is addressed regarding the interrelationships between the Maya area and Teotihuacán, archaeological studies carried out in Northwest Yucatán, focusing on architecture, settlement patterns, artifacts, and mural painting, in T’hó (Mérida), Dzibilchaltún, Chunchucmil, Sihó, and Mayapán. In the Puuc region, the search for the origin and antiquity of the Maya civilization stands out, along with studies conducted in Yaxuná, Chichén Itzá, Kulubá, Xuenkal, and Ekbalam. It contains essays on calendrical systems, codices, herbal medicine, and symbolic territoriality. Without a doubt, this is an important contribution to Maya studies.

Alfredo Barrera Rubio es Doctor en antropología por la ENAH. Actualmente es Investigador del Centro INAH Yucatán. Su área de trabajo es la arqueología de la región nororiente de Yucatán.

Alfredo Barrera Rubio holds a PhD in Anthropology from ENAH. He is currently a researcher at the INAH Yucatán Center. His area of expertise is the archaeology of the northeastern region of Yucatán.

Ruth Gubler (†) obtuvo su doctorado en antropología por la Universidad de California, Los Angeles. Su especialidad es la etnohistoria, con enfoque en las fuentes coloniales yucatecas sobre etnomedicina.

Ruth Gubler (†) holds a PhD in anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She specialised in ethnohistory, focusing on colonial Yucatecan sources on ethnomedicine.
