Description

This Festschrift commemorating the life and work of E. C. L. ‘Inez’ During Caspers gathers papers examining the regular international contacts and close intercultural relatedness of South and Southwest Asia, with a focus on the Bronze Age. The papers, contributed by a large panel of international scholars, and reflecting the range and importance of the honorand’s contributions in this area of study, consider these connections from the perspective of trade networks, shipbuilding, material culture, art and iconography, the movement and trade of livestock, written sources and folklore, funerary practices and more. The result is a wide-ranging and varied look at a number of aspects of society and culture in the Indus valley, Mesopotamia, and various neighbouring cultures, viewed through the lens of their intercultural relations.
