This memorial volume honours Father Michele Piccirillo, a respected and inspirational scholar in the archaeology of the Holy Land, and especially of Jordan and the area of Mount Nebo, centre of the work of the Franciscan Archaeological Institute. The contributions, offered by a range of international scholars, in English, Italian, French and Arabic, reflect the importance and diversity of the honorand’s efforts in the excavation, conservation, preservation and valorisation of the immense historical and archaeological heritage of the Middle East. They include papers on Byzantine art and architecture, late antique mosaics, museum studies and conservation, and offer a look into the range of archaeological projects underway in contemporary Jordan and around the Middle East.
