Description
The introduction of copper into everyday life coincided with the integration of different cultural groups of Neolithic steppe populations and the formation of a new cultural group – the Sredniy Stog culture. Its development represents the substance and specifics of the Early Eneolithic in the Black Sea steppe. Until now, settlement complexes were described and illustrated only selectively; one of the main tasks of this book is therefore their complete publication. Data about the environmental situation, which played an important role in such arid regions as the south of steppe zone, are here applied for the first time. Taking all this into account, the author offers a detailed description of the process of Early Eneolithic culture formation in the Pontic steppe and examines the cultural interactions of populations from the Volga to the Danube. Special attention is devoted to the reconstruction of the social and economic structure of these populations.
