Description
The present work is a study of the Plain of Issus, or Black Cilicia, in antiquity. The research was catalyzed by the discovery of a Roman settlement at the coastal site of Küçük Burnaz, in modern Turkey. In the course of assessing the remains it became clear that they were understandable only when viewed within their historical and regional context. Since no study of the region exists, it was a logical choice to include one with the examination of the ruins at Küçük Burnaz. Therefore, this study is divided into two parts. The first provides an overview of the region known as Black Cilicia, its geography, history and antiquities, while the second is an assessment of the architecture and finds from Küçük Burnaz, with a focus on ceramics and glass vessels.
