Text, Analysis, Glossary and Translation

Description
This study offers not only an integrated edition of the clothing sections of the Brauron Clothing Catalogues (IG II2 1514 -1530), but a glossary and translation intended to facilitate wider access at various levels of scholarship and to encourage interdisciplinary familiarity with the material and its contents. The presentation of the Greek text facilitates viewing the fragments from a perspective closer to their original function as a catalogue, thus allowing their use as an overall statistical entity, particularly in studying the taxonomy of Greek clothing. The author also offers descriptions of garments listed in the fragments, analysis based on their external context as records of dedication (with the social significance this implies) and on their internal relationships (as instances of ‘variants’ which contribute to a semiosis of description) and a tabulation of individual descriptions which allows comparison and focus on particular areas of interest.
