Description
The contributors to this volume of conference proceedings apply a combination of archaeological and anthropological perspectives and methods to the rock art of the Americas, from Canadian Shield rock paintings to the rock carvings of south-eastern Bolivia, via the pictographs and petroglyphs of Mexico. The papers, in English and Spanish, focus on the ritual gestures associated with the making of rock art, on the rituals depicted, and on the integration of the sites into the ritual life of contemporary indigenous societies and their role in building the social and spiritual identity of these societies.
