Description
This volume presents a selection of papers delivered at the Second International Meeting of Archaeology in Carlino, dedicated to Late Roman glazed pottery production in the Eastern Alpine area and the Danubian provinces. It presents the latest results of an international project aiming to re-examine the glazed pottery of Carlino, considered not only as one of the most important production sites, but as one connecting a variety of production and distributional circles, confirming that overall similarities obscure the specific characteristics of each site and assemblage. It offers new archaeometric data, chemical analyses, examinations of distribution in North-Eastern Italy and Central-Eastern Europe, and contextualizations of finds at kiln sites and in burial contexts. The results presented verify the diffusion and richness of these ceramics and demand revision of past conclusions about their appearance and production, changing established viewpoints on glazed pottery of the Late Roman and Early Byzantine era.
