BOOK DESCRIPTIONThis book describes and discusses the mansiones of Roman Britain, relating the posts of cursus publicus to the development of roadside settlements. Black makes a detailed examination of particular examples of mansiones through the first to fourth centuries, and in an appendix gives a re-assessment of the Antonine Itinerary, a prime source for the names and locations of roadside settlements.
